Q. Did Zingerman’s pay you to write the book?

A. Absolutely not. The idea for the book came from literary agent Irene Goodman. She approached me about writing it in November, 2019, and Scribner’s made a deal for the book in March, 2020.

Q. Did Zingerman’s cooperate with the book?

A. Very much so. Zingerman’s co-founders Ari Weinzweig and Paul Saginaw were generous with their time, as were managing partners at many Zingerman’s businesses, as well as staff members. In cases where there are multiple managing partners, some businesses designated one of them to speak with me.

Q. Did Zingerman’s control what you could write?

A. No, the book was written completely independently of Zingerman’s. Ari and Paul were each given a draft of the book to read before it was published. Paul provided some detailed notes.

Q. Can I buy the book from Zingerman’s?

A. The book is available at Zingerman’s Deli and a number of Zingerman’s businesses, and through the Zingerman’s Press website.

Q. Where else can I buy the book?

A. It’s available through all the big book sellers, independent book sellers and my Bookshop.org shop. Bookshop sends orders to independent book shops. Both the book sellers and authors earn a commission on each sale.
